Een gladde promotor in de bodybuilding subcultuur van Venice Beach, California, vindt wat hij beschouwt als een ruwe diamant: een toegewijde maar enigszins geestelijk gehandicapte jonge man die de bodybuilding kampioenschappen wil winnen, maar hij heeft hulp nodig en de promotor denkt dat hij de enige is die het kan.
