De rechercheur Mike Hoolihan is werkzaam op de afdeling moordzaken. Wanneer de astrofysicus Jennifer Rockwell dood wordt aangetroffen, wordt Hoolihan erbij gehaald. De zoektocht naar de dader blijkt geen kinderspel en de rechercheur beseft dat de moordzaak allerlei zaken in haar losmaakt.
