De pasgetrouwde Elizabeth komt met haar man Henry, een briljante wetenschapper, aan op zijn prachtige landgoed, waar hij haar verleidt met weelderige diners en een oogverblindende rondleiding door het pand. Het huispersoneel, Claire en Oliver behandelen haar eerbiedig, maar ze kan het gevoel dat er iets mis is niet van zich afschudden. Henry legt uit dat alles in zijn wereld nu van haar is. Hij verbiedt haar alleen om een afgesloten kamer te betreden. Wanneer hij weggaat voor zaken besluit Elizabeth op onderzoek uit te gaan en ontdekt dat ze misschien niet is wie ze denkt dat ze is.
