Britt Reid is de zoon van de bekendste en meest gerespecteerde mediamagnaat van L.A. Zijn zorgeloze leventje bestaat voornamelijk uit feestvieren, totdat zijn vader op mysterieuze wijze sterft en aan Britt zijn omvangrijke imperium nalaat. Britt sluit daarop vriendschap met een van zijn vaders werknemers, de toegewijde en inventieve Kato. Ze besluiten om voor het eerst van hun leven iets zinvols te doen: de misdaad bestrijden. En de beste manier om dit te doen is... door zelf crimineel te worden. Zo wordt Britt The Green Hornet en samen met Kato gaat hij de straat op, om de wet te beschermen door hem te overtreden...
