Een korte animatiefilm gebaseerd op het verhaal van Hans Christian Andersen over een arm jong meisje met een brandend verlangen om troost en geluk in haar leven te vinden. Wanhopig om warm te blijven, steekt het meisje de lucifers aan die ze verkoopt, en stelt zich een heel ander leven voor zichzelf voor in de vurige vlammen gevuld met beelden van liefhebbende familieleden, overvloedig eten en een plek om thuis te noemen.
Nee, helaas is The Little Matchgirl nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
