Dokter Michael Reynolds is een gerenommeerd arts. Op zeker ogenblik moet hij Blue, een jonge misdadiger, onderzoeken. Hij stelt vast dat de crimineel niet lang meer te leven heeft. Bij zijn transfer naar een ander ziekenhuis overmeestert Blue de arts en ontvoert hem. Onder bedreiging van 'n wapen dwingt hij hem richting Colorado te rijden. Tijdens de bewogen reis door de woestijn leren de arts en de misdadiger elkaar beter kennen, maar de wederzijdse achterdocht blijft...
