1972. Snookerspeler Alex Higgins wint het wereldkampioenschap snooker. Ondertussen begint een jongeman genaamd Steve Davis in een bar met snookeren. Na een tijd oefenen wordt hij er bijzonder goed in en al snel is hij één van de beste snookerspelers ter wereld. Maar ook Alex Higgins doet zijn best om aan de top te blijven. Het duurt niet lang voordat de heren rivalen worden.
