Fred Dorella vertelt aan de hand van flasbacks, gedetaileerd over een mislukte bankoverval. Via een simpel plan, huurt hij gangster Johnny Cabot (Cash) om de vrouw van de vice-president (Ken Wilson) van de bank te gijzelen. Johnny ontfermt zich over de vrouw totdat Fred het losgeld heeft ontvangen. Ze doen er nog een schepje boven op. Doordat Johnny zich voordoet als huis-aan-huis gitaarleraar gijzelt hij ook dochter Nancy Wilson.
