Sherlock Holmes wordt betrokken bij de zaak van Jack the Ripper, die prostituees vermoordt in het Londense East End. Bijgestaan door Dr. Watson en gebruikmakend van informatie van een gerenommeerd paranormaal begaafde, Robert Lees, ontdekt Holmes dat de moorden hun wortels kunnen hebben in een koninklijke indiscretie en dat een doofpotaffaire wordt beheerd door politici op het hoogste niveau, die toevallig allemaal vrijmetselaars zijn.
