De eerste veertig dagen na de opstanding van Jezus Christus door de ogen van een Romeinse strijder. De strijder moet in opdracht van Pontius Pilatus onderzoek doen naar de geruchten over een uit de dood herrezen Joodse Messias en het lichaam zien te vinden van Jezus van Nazareth om een dreigende opstand in Jeruzalem te voorkomen.
