Steve Wilson is een kritische krantenuitgever. De toegewijde Lorelei Kilbourne is Steve's vriendin en assistente. Steve wil zich ontdoen van de concurrerende sensatiekranten in zijn verschijningsregio en neemt onder andere de 'Illustrated Daily Press' over.Hij gebruikt zijn krantenimperium als bastion van de waarheid in de strijd tegen de corruptie in de grote stad. Steve krijgt in zijn strijd echter te maken met een lokale criminele bende en hij dreigt verslagen te worden door de vele rechtszaken van corrupte lieden tegen hem.
