John Killibrew is een smid die een paar mensen weet te overtuigen om met hem mee te reizen richting Californië. Ze settelen zich in het plaatsje Arkana maar wanneer er in de buurt een spoorlijn wordt aangelegd, wordt hun dorpje overgeslagen. Dit leidt tot grote onvrede bij Killibrews dorpsgenoten, die hem hiervoor schuldig achten. Hij ziet echter kans om zijn reputatie te verbeteren wanneer er een locomotief ontspoort.
