Na de dood van zijn vrouw verhuist psycholoog Cal Jamison (Sheen) met zijn zoontje naar New York, waar hij als politie-psycholoog de gedeprimeerde manschappen moet helpen. Wanneer hij een jonge detective moet behandelen die haast gek geworden is tijdens zijn onderzoek naar rituele moorden, komt hij in contact met de gevaarlijke 'Santeria'-sekte.
