1968. Totaal ontevreden over de mijnwerkersleiding, waar hij zelf deel van uitmaakt, besluit Joseph 'Jock' Yablonski zich kandidaat te stellen voor president van de mijnwerkersunie. Omdat hij te veel weet, wil de huidige president Tony Boyle hem echter dood hebben en stuurt huurmoordenaars op hem af.
