Jay Wagner is ten onrechte door zijn grootvader voor moord aangegeven en veroordeeld tot 28 jaar in een zwaar bewaakte gevangenis. De vrouw van Wagner vertelt de grootvader in goed vertrouwen dat ze Nick Colton ingehuurd heeft om Jay te helpen met de ontsnapping. Als een poging mislukt vermoedt Nick een lek en realiseert zich dat alle verdere plannen geheim moeten worden gehouden.
