De oude vlieginstructrice Billie Dupree is werkzaam op een vliegveld in Texas. Wanneer een jong en gehandicapt meisje het vliegveld bezoekt, heeft dat als gevolg dat ze in contact komt met Billie. Het meisje, Julie Ward, is namelijk geïnteresseerd geraakt in het vliegen. De oude Billie besluit haar vliegles te geven. Met de hulp van monteur Koup Trenton krijgt ze Julie de lucht in.
