Brian Gilcrest is een 37-jarige defensieleverancier die vrijwel door iedereen gehaat wordt. Zijn enige vriend lijkt de geavanceerde computer Jeremy. Gilcrest krijgt de opdracht de lancering van een wapensatelliet vanuit Hawaï in de gaten te houden. Samen met de humorloze Majoor Lisa Ng moet hij de inheemse Hawaiiaanse Raad veiligheid garanderen voor de lancering.
