Karan (Hrithik Roshan) is een gelukkige jongen met een heel relaxte houding over hoe dingen gaan in het leven. Zijn jeugdvriendin Romi (Preity Zinta) daarentegen is een moderne meid die gewoon zegt wat ze denkt. In een impuls besluit Karan om bij het leger te gaan en komt zo terecht bij de Indian Military Academy. Karan is vastbesloten om wat van zichzelf te maken en wil bewijzen dat hij het kan, ondanks wat zijn vader (Boman Irani) en vrienden hierover denken. Daar zal Karan door 'Major' Amitabh Bachan aan zeer zware fysieke testen onderworpen worden.
