De geschiedenis van zanger-pianist Liberace, gezien door de ogen van zijn manager Seymour Heller. Vanaf zijn debuut als pianist in een bordeel volgen we zijn weg naar de top. Tijdens een optreden in een restaurant wordt hij benaderd door Heller die belooft zijn carrière in goede banen te leiden. Er volgt een mislukte liefde en hij daagt een krant voor de rechtbank die hem van homoseksualiteit beschuldigt.
