Susan (Sean Young) droomt ervan de meest beroemde wetenschapper ter wereld te worden. Samen met haar man George (William Katt) ontdekken ze tijdens een expeditie in de oerwouden van Africa een Dinosaurus-Familie met hun pasgeboren jong. Hun blijdschap over deze ontdekking wordt wreed verstoord wanneer ze belaagd worden door de eerzuchtige Dr. Kiviat en zijn huurlingen, die over lijken gaan om het prehistorische beest in hun bezit te krijgen en uit te buiten.
