In New York achtervolgen de twee jonge vriendinnen Gil en Val de pianist Henry Orient (Peter Sellers) door de hele stad, terwijl hij een getrouwde vrouw probeert te versieren. Als Val's ouders arriveren tijdens kerstmis, zijn de twee meiden gedwongen om zich volwassen te gaan gedragen en hun vriendschap uit te testen.
