Mi Taylor is een jonge zwerver en opportunist die in het stille Engelse plattelandshuis van de familie Brown terechtkomt. De jongste dochter, Velvet, heeft een passie voor paarden en wanneer ze het pittige paard Pie wint in een stadsloterij, wordt Mi aangemoedigd om het paard te trainen.
