Monty is een cynische, conservatieve Harvard student. Op een dag laat hij per ongeluk zijn enige exemplaar van zijn honderd pagina's tellende thesis vallen. Simon, een nietsnut die onder de bibliotheek woont, krijgt het werk te pakken. Monty die zijn thesis wanhopig terug wil, vraagt aan Simon om het terug te geven. Deze laatste ziet een gouden kans voor hem liggen en maakt een afspraak met Monty. Hij zal telkens één pagina van de thesis teruggeven voor elk plezier dat Monty voor hem doet. Met tegenzin gaat Monty akkoord en leert noodgedwongen een heleboel lessen over het leven en over hemzelf.
