Amanda Shelton is eigenaresse van een restaurant dat ze van haar moeder geërfd heeft. Hoewel haar kookkunsten veel te wensen overlaten, is ze een charmante en aantrekkelijke vrouw die niet bang is om haar emoties te tonen. Tom Bartlett is een succesvolle executive bij een beroemd warenhuis. Zijn koele, praktische manier van werken heeft hem geen windeieren gelegd. Tom en Amanda lijken niets met elkaar gemeen te hebben, maar worden door een ontmoeting op een markt toch bij elkaar gebracht.
