Nadat hun ouders in een ongeluk omkwamen, worden de zusjes Meg en Susan in het huis opgenomen van hun tante Ruth en haar drie zonen. Ruth wil de meisjes discipline bijbrengen door ze flink te straffen. Uiteindelijk wordt het oudste meisje, Meg, vastgehouden en gemarteld in de kelder door Ruth en haar zonen. De andere kinderen in de buurt gaan ook meedoen. Alleen de buurjongen David, die bevriend is geraakt met Meg, ziet de ernstigheid in van deze martelingen.
