Het jonge getrouwde stel Zach en Emmy besluit een luchtballonvaart te maken door de Zwitserse Alpen om hun relatie nieuw leven in te blazen. Wanneer ze gezelschap krijgen van een derde passagier, Julia, ontvouwen zich gebeurtenissen die ze zich vijfduizend meter in de lucht nooit hadden kunnen voorstellen. Wat de reis van hun leven had moeten worden, loopt uit in een ramp als de duistere geheimen van de passagiers worden onthuld en de toorn van de natuur losbarst.
