Drie heksen vertellen de Schotse generaal Macbeth dat hij koning van Schotland zal worden. Aangemoedigd door zijn vrouw doodt Macbeth de koning, wordt de nieuwe koning en doodt meer mensen uit paranoia. De burgeroorlog barst uit om Macbeth omver te werpen, wat resulteert in meer dood.
