Gebaseerd op de avonturen van de bekende Franse gentleman-dief Arsène Lupin. In het Parijs van de twintigste eeuw komt Lupin in dit verhaal onder de vloek te vallen van de Gravin de Cagliostro. Bovendien worden zijn jonge jaren in Normandië belicht, rond 1894.
