Violeta is een veertig jaar oude getrouwde vrouw met een tienerzoon. Ze is tandarts van beroep en is klaar voor weer een saaie dag in de praktijk en een soortgelijke avond die ze zal doorbrengen in haar appartement in Copacabana. Dan krijgt ze een telefoontje dat haar man haar heeft verlaten. In shock probeert Violeta nog naar hem op zoek te gaan, maar ze mist het laatste vliegtuig. Violeta wil niet naar haar appartement en checkt in bij een goedkoop motel. Van daaruit blijft ze de hele nacht door Rio de Janeiro dwalen.
