Liam, een ambitieuze jonge schrijver, aanvaardt gretig een baan als docent op het familie landgoed van zijn idool, de beroemde auteur J.M. Sinclair. Maar al snel beseft Liam dat hij verstrikt is in een web van familiegeheimen, wrok en vergelding. Sinclair, zijn vrouw Hélène en hun zoon Bertie bewaken allemaal een duister verleden, een verleden dat zowel Liams toekomst als die van henzelf bedreigt.
