De lichaams-telling gaat door in deze levendige thriller, de vierde -maar niet de laatste- film in de succesvolle Friday the 13th serie. Jason, in Crystal Lake de minst populaire inwoner, keert terug naar het stadje om wraak te nemen. Na zijn heropleving in een mortuarium vestigt de gemaskerde moordenaar zijn aandacht op de familie Jarvis en een groepje van tot nu toe onbezorgde tieners.
