Marie Vlácilová is 56 jaar oud. Ze heeft haar man in de de Tweede Wereldoorlog verloren en ze moest zelf naar een concentratiekamp. Haar dochtertje Pavla werd in een Duits gezin geplaatst. Na de oorlog wordt Pavla weer gevonden en bij Marie teruggebracht, maar een warme relatie is niet meer mogelijk.
