Rachel is een succesvolle carrièrevrouw die op het punt staat promotie te maken. Via haar werkgever, een technologiebedrijf in New York, bemachtigt ze een felbegeerde plek in het ‘Pegasus Womb Center’. Zij bieden koppels een gemakkelijke en handige uitkomst voor zwangerschappen door middel van kunstmatige baarmoeders, oftewel pods. Haar partner Alvy, een botanicus met liefde voor de natuur, geeft de voorkeur aan een natuurlijke zwangerschap. Alvy’s liefde voor Rachel zet hem ertoe een sprong in het diepe te wagen en zo begint hun rollercoaster naar het ouderschap in deze nieuwe technologische wereld van voortplanting, maar tegen welke prijs?
