Franklin Cane is een aan de weg timmerende tennisprof die de ladder van het succes beklimt, met aan zijn zijde trainer Jonathan. Jonathan was voorbestemd om de grootste Amerikaanse tennisspeler ooit te worden, maar nu wil hij dit met Franklin bereiken. Hij ontmoet bij een van de wedstrijden Cynthia, een mooie fotografe die een grote invloed op de carrière van Franklin heeft.
