Ralphie, een jonge jongen die opgroeit in de jaren '40, droomt ervan om een Red Ryder BB geweer te hebben. Hij probeert de wereld er van te overtuigen dat die het perfecte kerstcadeau zou zijn. Hij stuit echter op weerstand bij zijn ouders, zijn leraar, en zelfs bij de Kerstman zelf.
