Reisleidster Amanda Riley wordt op onverwachte wijze in de steek gelaten door haar vriendje John als hij gaat verhuizen. Om er even tussenuit te gaan, besluit Amanda voor haar werk bij een reisbureau de opdracht te accepteren om in het geheim naar Vietnam te gaan en te leren over de toeristenindustrie. Daar ontmoet ze de Vietnamese, vrijgevochten gids Sinh Thach, met wie ze avontuur en romantiek ontdekt wanneer ze besluiten de reisbus om te leiden om het leven en de liefde buiten de gebaande paden te verkennen.
