De doorwinterde jockey Jackson heeft er menige wedstrijden op zitten. Nu zijn gezondheid achteruitgaat kan hij weleens zijn laatste seizoen aanvatten. Ter voorbereiding van het eerstvolgende kampioenschap krijgt Jackson de hulp van Ruth en een nieuw beloftevol paard. Wanneer de beginnende ruiter Gabriel opduikt, wordt Jackson uit zijn concentratie gehaald. Gabriel beweert immers dat hij zijn zoon is.
