Wanneer de Japanners Singapore binnenvallen in 1942 worden veel vrouwen en kinderen opgesloten in gevangeniskampen. Ondanks hun verschillende leeftijden, nationaliteiten en achtergronden groeit er een band tussen de gevangenen wanneer ze te maken krijgen met voedselgebrek en de slechte behandeling van hun gevangennemers. Adrienne, één van de vrouwen, organiseert een koor.
