Centraal staat Melvin, een Britse auteur die in Amerika woont en voor Kerstmis terugkeert naar Londen om zijn Amerikaanse verloofde Lisa voor te stellen aan zijn excentrieke Brits-Caribische familie. Hun relatie wordt op de proef gesteld als zij de wereld ontdekt die haar verloofde heeft achtergelaten.
