De film vertelt het levensverhaal van de Franse advocate en politica Simone Veil (1927 - 2017), doorheen de scharniermomenten van de twintigste eeuw. Haar jeugd, haar politieke gevechten en haar tragedies komen aan bod. Een portret van een buitengewone vrouw die haar tijdperk bij uitstek uitdaagde en transformeerde door een humanistische boodschap te verdedigen die ook vandaag nog zeer relevant is.
