Malik en Imani vormen een vriendelijk en succesvol getrouwd stel dat naar Harvey Hill verhuist. Het tweetal staat te popelen om in te trekken en een gezin te stichten, maar bij aankomst worden ze meteen het doelwit van hun blanke en racistische buurvrouw Karen. Zij kan de nieuwkomers niet uitstaan en gebruikt haar connecties, waaronder haar broer Mike die een politieagent is, om het leven van Malik en Imani zo moeilijk mogelijk te maken. Hoewel Karen's oorlog met de buren passief agressief begint, escaleert de situatie al snel. Malik en Imani deinzen echter niet terug zonder slag of stoot.
