Twee mannen, een ambiteuze chef-kok en een leraar, uit het provinciale Mexico ontmoeten elkaar toevallig en worden verliefd. Ze beginnen een relatie die meerdere decennia zal duren. Onder de maatschappelijke druk emigreren ze naar New York en gaan ze op zoek naar een beter leven, maar dit zal nooit meer hetzelfde zijn.
