Ten tijde van het Shogunaat in Japan komen dertien samoerai samen, onder leiding van Shimada Shinzaemon. Zij bereiden een zelfmoordmissie voor om de wrede landheer van de Akashi-clan te vermoorden. Hij heeft namelijk verkracht en gemoord, maar staat nu op het punt een hoge positie in het Rijk te krijgen.
