Margaret Powers, een patholoog-anatoom van middelbare leeftijd uit de middenklasse, is op zoek naar wraak wanneer ze de jongeman van wie ze denkt dat hij haar zoon heeft vermoord, gevangen neemt en martelt. Haar poging om een bekentenis af te dwingen leidt echter tot een tragedie en brengt zeer verontrustende waarheden aan het licht.
