Sarah krijgt te horen dat ze een hersentumor heeft. Ze besluit haar briljante carrière in New York op te geven en keert terug naar haar geboortedorp aan de Schotse kust. Daar wil ze weer contact opnemen met haar jeugdliefde, wiens hart ze zeven jaar geleden heeft gebroken en die nu getrouwd is.
