Frank Keane stuit al rijdende op een autowrak, met daarin een man die zwaargewond aan hem zijn laatste wens vertelt. Hij wil graag zijn vroegere liefde nogmaals zien, waarmee hij ooit afsprak om op de vijfde dag van de vijfde maand in het vijfde jaar van het nieuwe millennium elkaar te ontmoeten in de dansschool van Marilyn Hotchkiss. Frank doet er alles aan om de man zijn laatste wens te laten uitkomen, terwijl hij zelf in therapie zit omdat zijn vrouw zelfmoord heeft gepleegd.
