'Wishful Drinking' is gebaseerd op Fisher's gelijknamige memoires. De toneelbewerking beleefde zijn wereldpremière in 2006 in het Geffen Playhouse in LA. Later speelde het in Berkeley Repertory voordat het in oktober op Broadway werd geopend in Studio 54. De show neemt het publiek mee op een komische tour door Fisher's rommelige persoonlijke leven en carrière. De actrice-schrijfster vertelt verhalen over haar werk aan de 'Star Wars'-serie en haar relatie met haar ouders Eddie Fisher en Debbie Reynolds. Ze bespreekt ook haar veelbesproken problemen met alcohol en drugs.
