Corinne is opgegroeid in de jaren zestig, en haar leven wordt gekenmerkt door haar gevoel van ontoereikendheid. Op de middelbare school dreigt haar leven te ontsporen, wat haar uiteindelijk in de armen drijft van Ethan, een gitarist die in een lokale band speelt. Door een voorval sluiten ze zich aan bij een kleine groep fundamentalisten waar ze begrip en stabiliteit vinden. Maar sommige meer conservatieve leden van het gezelschap jagen Corinne angst aan, wat leidt tot een diepe geloofscrisis die haar wereld op z’n kop zet.
