Tussen de zorg voor haar moeder door werkt een jonge vrouw parttime in een gevangenis. De beginnende bewaker krijgt de kans om haar moed te bewijzen wanneer ze de taak krijgt om een hel-verhogende gevangene te vergezellen met een noodverlof om haar stervende moeder te bezoeken. Maar al snel loopt het uit de hand, waardoor het paar op een hilarische, verrassende en uiteindelijk ontroerende roadtrip gaat.
