Aan de zuidkust van Long Island in de zomer van 1982 doet een groepje tieners en twintigers uit de arbeidersklasse een zomerbaantje, wordt verliefd en verbreekt de relatie, en worstelt met de vraag wat de toekomst zal brengen als de zomer voorbij is en de echte wereld lonkt.
